When Julia Roberts was cast as a lead in “My Super Ex-Girlfriend,” the actress was looking for something fresh.

But what could be more fresh than a raunchy comedy about a woman who falls in love with her ex?

So instead of the usual blond-haired and blue-eyed ingenue who loves her family but can’t find a boyfriend, we got a brunette with a short blond wig.

The question is: Does the actress’ latest role in the movie’s director, Ivan Reitman, suggest that her career is on the horizon?

“Absolutely,” Miss Faris, 48, says.

“I think Ivan is a genius. He’s great and he’s a great guy. He’s brilliant.

“For a guy of his stature to come in and talk about the kind of projects he could get made, I was super excited.”

That Mr. Reitman and Miss Faris – best known for playing Mary Jane on “Batman Forever” – have been friends for some 15 years was evident during filming of the movie last week.

“It’s been wonderful. He’s a warm, loving, generous, wonderful soul,” said Miss Faris.

“We can talk about anything. He can talk about his work or his family and it doesn’t matter.

“It’s just like any guy who wants to talk, and there are so many things I want to talk about that it’s not very productive. The great thing about being an actor is you kind of make up your own schedule.”

Miss Faris recalls the day they filmed “My Super Ex-Girlfriend”.
