Aurélien Tchouaméni: The Next Big Thing in French Soccer

Aurélien Tchouaméni: Meet the French soccer star everyone is talking about

Every time a new French soccer player is picked for the France national team, we’re told that he or she is the next big thing in French soccer. So, in the year of ’18, what do we have?

The French Soccer Hall of Fame has not been honored in 2017. Not even the player of the year. But there is one player who is always in the conversation: the 20-year-old midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni.

He is the first player from the French league of Toulousain to get noticed. It goes without saying that if the story of Aurélien Tchouaméni and his rise to stardom had not reached an international level, the French soccer world would never know about this young player.

He had already been a member of the youth national team before he was called up for the first time to the first team in September 2016. This was after a remarkable run at the Stade de Bordeaux. As an 18-year-old, he came in as a substitute in their Champions League quarter final against Juventus in the year of ‘17. In a very emotional match, Tchouaméni played the first 45 minutes and came from the bench for the last 10 minutes of the game. He had to be substituted because of a stomach problem. But he was able to play the rest of the game and scored two crucial goals. In the round of 16 against FC Rostov he scored the only goal the Russian team scored during the rest of the game.

Then his career started to take off. In January of ‘17 Aurélien Tchouaméni made his official debut for the French First Division club FC Toulouse in a 2-1 defeat against Nancy. In his debut, he scored the second goal in a 1-1 draw. This was a big deal for the club, and since then, Tchouaméni, has been scoring in all of his games for the team.
