Four new trustees are filling the vacant seats on the Community College District Board of Trustees. The District’s first community college campus, University of Redlands, has been opened. A number of trustees are retiring. The Board of Commissioners of the Community College District are seeking new trustees for the Board of Trustees.

Three new candidates have announced they are seeking election to the community college district board of trustees; all are Democrats. They are:

Ronald J. Estrada, 44, of La Puente, CA

Carolyn J. Schulman, 58, of Riverside, CA

Tristan P. Johnson, 57, of Moreno Valley, CA

Estrada is a small business owner who recently opened a convenience store and is a former County Commissioner in Riverside County. He served on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors from 2003 to 2010. He currently serves as a Riverside County Public Utilities Commissioner. Schulman owns a small business in Riverside County. She is a member of the Riverside County Democratic Party Executive committee. Johnson is a retired Army veteran who has taught at University of Redlands, teaches fitness at the University of Redlands and has served on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors since 2006. He is currently a Riverside County Commissioner. His father, a retired San Bernardino County Supervisor, is a former member of the U.S. Navy.

There are two new trustees (one woman and one man) and four retirements (two men and two women) in the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees meets twice a year. On the first and third Mondays of the month. At that time the Board members elect two members to serve in their current positions for three years (the “initial three-year appointment”) and one member for two years (the “permanent three-year appointment
